Order No.2
Twenty-one squares squared, stepping politely down to a solid cobalt heart.
About the piece
Order No.2 is the studio’s thesis statement: a strict Chebyshev grid where each square’s size is set by its distance from the centre, and the innermost cells merge into one solid block of cobalt. Maximum system, maximum calm.
It followed a lost first attempt — Order No.1 overcomplicated the falloff and collapsed into mush. The sequel deleted everything that wasn’t working, which turned out to be most of it.
Details
The edition runs to one hundred because the piece is asked for constantly — housewarmings, graduations, first offices. It is the print people give when they want to say “you’ve got this” without words.
Printed in cobalt on pale grey-white cotton with a generous border for framing.
Build the grid
Twenty-one squared, even margins, one ink — the strictest frame in the studio.
Step the sizes
Square area follows grid-distance from centre; the middle dissolves into solid.
